The Slice Pizza and Games, Arroyo Grande

Last weekend we threw a party for my son at The Slice in Arroyo Grande. The Slice is a family friendly pizza place that has a large arcade equipped with 25 games, four party spaces, delicious pizza, salads, hot wings and more. We went as a family of 9 and brought along three friends of the birthday boy. The ages of the kids span from 2-12 years old and EVERYONE had a good time. I loved that there were games for all ages!

THE FUN CARD

A FUN TWIST ON ARCADE TOKENS

Instead of using tokens or change to pay for games, each player (I say player, not child because my husband was just as enthusiastic about playing the games as the kids were) gets their very own FUN CARD that you can load money onto and that's how you pay for your games. The kids think it is SO COOL and they feel important walking around with their own shiny plastic 'credit cards'.

Something that I think is really handy is all of the "prize tickets" you win go right on to your card. The fun card eliminates the token cup and the piles and piles of tickets you have to carry around as you play.

THE PRIZE HUB

Once you are done playing games (ie; when you run out of money on your card) and you are ready to cash in for prizes, all you do is swipe your card at the "Prize Hub" and it lets you know right there how many prize tickets you've earned.

The smaller prizes consisted of temporary tattoos, plastic rings and necklaces, little figurines, pencil toppers, you know..those typical tiny little toys that little kids go crazy over! Some of the bigger prizes included Pokémon cards (which my boys were eyeballing the whole time), and a 3-pack of comic books!

The best part is that you can take your card home with you and save any unused money or tickets that are left on it and use it next time! I would advise you to put your child's name in sharpie on their card right away. We had a few almost altercations between kids during our party because they couldn't figure out which was their card after setting it down to eat.

WHEN & WHERE

Hours of Operation: 11:00 A.M.- 9:00 P.M.

Location: 1412 Grand Avenue

Arroyo Grande, CA 93420

GAME SPECIALS

  • Monday & Thursday- 10¢ Games ALL DAY

  • Tuesday- Half price games all day

Arcade promotions exclude merchandise games like the crane games.

The Candy Crane game was a big hit and easily the most frequented game in our group.

They also have basketball type games, racing games, shooting games, spin the wheel for tickets games, and air hockey to name a few. Like..are you even an arcade if you don't have air hockey?

THE FOOD

We had pizza, salad, and hot wings for our party. The salads were very good, the greens were fresh and came with tomatoes, cucumbers, black olives, croutons (which I opted out) and your choice of dressing. Oh! And you can add chicken if you want as well. I was just talking to a friend about how usually the salads are mediocre, at best, at most pizza places. But the salad I had was great! And it was a generous portion too!

My husband ate most of the hot wings and he said they were "crispy AND spicy". He loves hot wings and has had many different types from many different places and what he liked about these particular hot wings is that they were both crispy and spicy and it just so happens that combo is hard for him to find. He will usually find spicy hot wings to be soggy, or crispy hot wings to not be spicy enough for his taste.

FOOD & DRINK SPECIALS

Monday - Friday 3:00 P.M.- 5:30 P.M.

$3 draft beer, $12 pitchers $3 bread sticks

Everyone enjoyed the pizza! Shocker.. I know. But...

FUN FACT: All of the dough AND sauce is made in house! You can really tell too, it was so yummy! I had recently started a diet that excludes pizza but I HAD to taste it for the sake of this review (oh darn) so I can honestly say it was very good pizza. Sorry I didn't/couldn't get a picture of a full pizza. Every time a new pizza was brought out the kids grabbed a slice like it was their job! Here is the full Menu.

Oh, yeah.. Did I mention they serve beer and wine as well?! They have local beer on tap, assorted bottled beer, and wine by the glass. For all of those big (21+) kids out there that love to play arcade games, a good slice of pizza, AND enjoy an adult beverage or two. If you are not there for a party, they have plenty of seating otherwise and even outdoor picnic tables. Love that! Outdoor seating is my jam.

We were gifted $10 game cards for the kids and food for the party as part of their "free birthday parties for deserving kids" program.

Here's more details about that:

RENTAL SPACE DETAILS

Rental Spaces are ALWAYS FREE to rent any day of the week! I was like "SAY WHAT?!" That was so surprising to me, as most, if not all, places charge for a party reservation. They do suggest that you book early because their spaces fill up fast! Click here for more specific information about their party space rentals.

We had the 'yellow' space. isn't that cute? They have the spaces named by color instead of number. I love that. Each space allows for up to 15 people. What I loved about this particular space is the extra two tables on the side that we were able to use for presents and the birthday cake.
